Meet the Founder
Hi, I’m Trevor, the founder of Shore Leave. Growing up, always had a curiosity for the world around me, exploring new places, trying new experience or, or doing something completely out of my comfort zone. As I grew older, I moved west to pursue a career in hospitality, working in some of the most picturesque places across Canada, eventually adopting Banff as my home. This career allowed me to share the curiosity for the world with my guests and reveled in the chance to be an ambassador for my home town, or whichever town I considered home at the time.
When I wasn’t working, I would spend time with friends; summers spent camping, hiking, and swimming, and winters were spent snowboarding. I traveled as often as my time off and budget would allow, which was not nearly enough. My approach to life was with a sense of adventure, curiosity, and a will to bring people together.
My first experience diving was on my working holiday in Australia, where I learned to dive in the cold (yet unseasonably warm, if my instructor was to be believed) waters of Tasmania. I was enraptured by the wholly unique underwater world, but at the time I did not know it would become a passion – that happened on a subsequent trip to Belize, where I volunteered with a local reef conservation program. Since then, most of my travels have been diving related, having trained from Advanced Open water in Tobermory to becoming an instructor in Nusa Lembongan, Indonesia.
While completing my Divemaster training in Victoria, BC, I began dreaming of a way to blend my hospitality expertise with my love for diving. Shore Leave is the result of that dream—a way to bring the joy of adventure and exploration to others.
The Shore Leave Story
Shore Leave was born from a love of adventure. With a background in hospitality and a passion for diving, I wanted to create a business that could bring those two worlds together. After years of diving in places like the Great Barrier Reef, Belize, and Tobermory, I realized that the best way to truly experience a destination is to dive into it—pardon the pun.
The breakthrough for Shore Leave came while living in Bocas del Toro, on the Caribbean coast of Panama. Surrounded by the warm, inviting waters of the Caribbean Sea, excellent visibility, and a tight-knit dive community, I realized how special this place truly is. The community is welcoming and passionate, yet it feels somewhat underserved by divers, leaving many of its beautiful dive spots unnoticed by the larger dive community. But for many visitors, the beauty of Bocas can be overwhelming, with so much to see and do. How do you get the most out of a limited time here and enjoy the best experiences this incredible place has to offer?
